Ummm so today i saw a bumper sticker on a pick-up truck and it said "If it's fly'n, it's die'n." with a little picture of a duck or some animal like that. and it really made me mad because i couldn't understand why it wouldnt say "If it's fly'n, it's dyin'." I just think that would make more sense.
first of all, it just looks better when both the words have a Y. Second of all, it makes more sense phonetically because "die'n" really would just be pronounced as "dine", maybe with a little dipthong in there that would suggest a Y sound. but "dyin'" actually rhymes with "flyin'".
and then i got mad at myself for being such a loser and actually paying attention to things like that. a semester of grammar plus another semester of linguistics equals ONE BIG NERD.
