can i just say there's nothing more touching than celebrities hugging African children with Aids. If you're looking for a way to make me cry, that will pretty much do it. way to go american idol.
highlights of the very special 'Idol Gives Back' extravaganza:
- Idols dressed in all white. nothing says charity like matching glow-in-the-dark pantsuits.
- Jack Black singing "Kiss from a Rose". Jack Black and Seal. cant go wrong.
- Annie Lennox. reminding us all that she IS the most frightening woman on the planet.
- Ryan Seacrest declaring "This will be the most important phone call you will ever make in your life." - reminding us all that he IS the most dramatic person on the planet.
- Celine Dion and....Elvis? I have no words. And I don't mean that in a good way.
I went to my friend's wedding this weekend in Evansville. I should probably mention she's from Kentucky. so it was definitely a southern wedding. and until that day, i never realized there WAS such thing as a southern wedding. the differences are subtle, but there nonetheless. For instance, the clinking of the glasses.
now, if you're not from the north like me, maybe you dont know about this custom so i will explain it. during the reception dinner, it's customary for guests to begin clinking their glasses with their silverware. someone starts doing it and then everyone joins in, and that means the bride and groom have to kiss. usually, this happens about 5-10 times throughout dinner. just to be annoying.
and what happened when i tried (with my friend Kevin) to do this at melanie's wedding? a whole lot of stares. silence. some glares. even with Kevin's "come on everybody! clink your glass! the bride and groom have to kiss if we do this! come on!!!"..............nothing. although it was entertaining to see him yelling to a room of silent, confused people as he beat his champagne glass with a fork. i had a good laugh.
AND the whole garter thing. call me crazy, but it's customary up here for the GROOM to take the woman's garter off and throw it. not the BEST MAN. which is what they do down in the south. i was so confused to see Tom's best friend taking off Melanie's garter and throwing it. I was seriously concerned. it just goes against all logic.
just two reasons why i despise kentucky.
speaking of despising- Chris Daughtry. Calling himself "Daughtry". it's pretty much the stupidest thing i've ever heard.
those are my thoughts.
